Here’s Why Tyra Banks Is Leaving ‘AGT’ and Not Hosting the 2019 Spinoff
The Life-Size star might be done with AGT for good. 😢
America’s Got Talent: The Champions is here, and this time Terry Crews is hosting the show. Given that Tyra Banks has been on AGT since season 12, everybody’s wondering why she isn’t resuming her duties for the new spinoff series. After all, the four judges — Mel B, Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, and Howie Mandel — are all signed up for Champions — so why not Tyra?
The exact reason she isn’t participating for the spinoff remains a mystery, but we have a feeling her crazy schedule has something to do with it. She was busy producing and promoting her new TV movie Life-Size 2, which came out in December, and working on her long-running show America’s Next Top Model.
Sadly, Tyra skipping out on Champions is looking more and more like a sign that she’s moving on for good. Despite initial reports that made it sound like Tyra would be returning to AGT for the summer edition of the series, a source told Us Weekly, “Tyra’s leaving on her own volition and because she wants to produce and act more.” While she has yet to confirm whether this is true or not, she did hint to Access Hollywood in November that she might not come back.
“I think I had a really nice run with AGT,” she told the outlet at the time. “I had a lot, a lot of fun... I’m going to be producing TV and I have a massive project starting next year. I’m not so sure, but if I don’t come back, I had a lot of fun.”
Bottom line: Even though Tyra isn’t hosting this winter, fans will get to see more of her whenever her massive *secret* project is revealed. Meanwhile, AGT viewers will surely love Terry, who seemed really pumped to take over for the winter:
“I am so proud and honored to join Simon, Mel, Heidi and Howie,” Terry previously said. “Now America’s Got Terry Crews!”
